The government has approved the establishment of 12 IT and hi-tech
parks in various districts at a cost of Tk 1,796.40 crore to propel the country
towards a digital economy. The project, 'Establishing IT Park/High-Tech Park at
District Level (12 Districts),' was approved by the Executive Committee of the
National Economic Council. Tk 1,544 crore will come from credit from India, and
the rest will be covered by the government. The initiative aims to strengthen
the move towards a knowledge-based society and generate $5 billion from the ICT
sector, employing 20 lakh youths. Additionally, the government is working on
the Sheikh Hasina Software Technology Park in Jessore and the Bangabandhu
Hi-Tech City in Gazipur. These efforts align with the intention to build a
robust ICT sector and foster employment opportunities.
